Is the new in-thing matte finish?

I think it looks tight as can be...

Yes, it seems to be. Especially in the lower budgeted hot rod arena. Harley Davidson has some really awesome colors that are matte for 2007 too. I'm digging the look of a matte finish, then shoot whatever graphic design, usually flames, with just a simple clear coat, topped off with some well placed, fine line, "Von Dutch" style, pinstripes. One color, two distinctly different sheen's.

so, let's just say I wanted to paint my truck, and go matte for sure: stick to black matte or color? For some reason, my mind can't make a color matte finish look okay. Is it just me?

Nah, ANYTHING but black. Already played out...
Seriously, go to your nearest Harley dealership and take a look at their bikes in that matte finish. They have blue, burgundy, and silver. I saw a car painted the blue at the Rockabilly Rod Reunion, in Vegas and it looked pretty cool. The colors highlight any curves or edges. You can make any color you wish by having your painter add a flattening agent to the clear. Having your color shot over a gold or silver base will accomplish the highlight effect I'd spoke of.

I am looking into buying a 92 flareside and painting it flat black, putting steel wheels on it that are painted red with baby moon center caps and BFGoodrich 2 7/8 whitewall tires. What do you think?

Sort of retro but with more modern convieniences.

Mabye a mild lowering kit too.

Jersey will not let you do rad mods to the suspension, maybe 2 inches in front and just about the same in the rear.

I will check that out! Thanks for the encouragement!

I can picture it in my mind but have never seen it done in print or pictures.

Maybe it might start a new trend for these later model trucks!

Someone here in San Diego did that to a newer Impala station wagon. It looked awesome! Try it!
