I have an 02 Ranger and I had a 3" front/rear drop done about 2 years ago.  I knew a guy who knew how to do suspensions so I had him do it for me and he heated the front springs to lower the front end.  Since then my truck has made squeaking noises but I have otherwise had no problems.  I recently had a ranger genius work on my truck while I am in Iraq and he said that I could have problems in the future.  he said that a whole redo would cost about 2000 dollars but I plan to bag the truck in about two years when I get out of the army.  He said that if I just got springs and shocks that that would get rid of the squeak and it would ride nicer. Which would be nice for now as I plan to take the Range to Germany and the autobahn is some quick driving.  Would 800 dollars for new shocks and springs just to fix it for now be worth it or should I wait the two years.  My mechanic said the spindles would be fine.  What do you guys think.

Yes it would. Heating springs is horrible for them and pretty much destroys them.

Another thing to think is since something is squeaking it may not be the spring or shock, it could also be the bushings or ball joints that got damaged by half assed lowering job of just heating the springs...
