It seems that in creating a custom minitruck, it's getting harder and harder to come up with something truly custom and unique; it's hard to stand out and be different. Really sick trucks fall through the cracks when it's something that has already been done.
Know what I mean?

Yeah, customization is a never-ending pursuit. No matter how sick, cutting-edge, unique, or off-the-hook you think your ride is, there's always going to be someone faster, sicker, more cutting-edge, more outrageous, expensive, etc.
I think at some point, you've just got to be happy with what you've got, and just enjoy the scene. It's hard to stay at the top, and some would say, just not worth it. Unless you're a shop building a custom for promotional purposes, it's hard to make a case for dumping all your money into your ride just to be out-done by the next guy.

And it also doesn't help when things are stolen/vandalized/hit/damaged while on the road. That's where it's just not worth it to me.
You're exactly right, I say just enjoy the scene; that's all I do. I like seeing what other people do, what new creative ideas they come up with. As for me, since I drive my mini 80 miles a day, I'm not in that same ballpark as "those" trucks, and I'm okay with that.
If you love it, you're okay with never bein' "Best of Show" because that's not what it's all about.

Personally-no offense to anyone- i am tires of reading in articles that so and so changed his/her ride because such and such had their ride in "construction zone" or other places and they decided to do something different because someone else has the same rig.It shouldn't matter because someone else will always have your ride no matter what it is. so people need to build for themselves first and foremost not to get a feature.

...and if you DO come up with something that's nowhere else, there's probably a reason you haven't seen it done...

trying to outdo the rest of the custom truck community when building your own truck will only lead to frustration, hair loss, and quite possibly, alcoholism.
better to just build something you like, keep your hair, stay happy, and be a happy drunk.

no more how big of a wheel can you fit! Mostly that shows that you can spend more than the next guy on your wheels. I'd rather have a smaller wheel and be super low than a big wheel and not be low. With the control arms and other components available anyone can run 22" or 24" on their S-10s and other minis so big woop de do

Thank you!
And...
The same amount of work goes into laying out a truck on stocks wheels/rubber as bling bling wheels. Small rim, big tire... big rim, small tire... six of one, half a dozen of another.

This is one of the main reasons why I sold my S-10. I had a 92' S-10 and it seemed to get less and less cool the more I seen other ones that look exactly like mine. I loved the truck, just got frustrating going to shows and seeing rows and rows of trucks like mine. Something more rare a person could do is drop a big block in it. But other than that, i think nearly everything has been done. Best thing is to just do what YOU want and what YOU think is cool. Thats really the only way you will be truly happy with your truck!

Just to give you guys another angle to talk about my S-10 has about 225 miles on it since the newest build and about 175 of those mile were on the rockers so it has taking a beating. I build trucks to drag, that’s what I like....but, I have just as much fun draggn/driving them as I do building them. So even with only 225 miles I have torn it down and am totally re-building it, not because I have been out done, but because I like to. I have been happy with the truck in all of it’s fazes and I will like it again when I re-do it. I don’t really build anything with other peoples opinions in mind, I just like to push myself to build it better next time!!!!!

I say make it YOURS. Even if that means jumpin' on the latest fad or being one of many at a show, if it represents YOU and what YOU like... that's cool. Every one has a different comfort level, budget, goals, etc. I can guarantee there is only ONE of you driving that EXACT truck, so... it's unique regardless. hahaha awwww lame.
