hello,i have a 1990 ford ranger with a 2.9L, i would like to put a 4.0 L in it what all is involved with switching it over????

You will need the engine, the wiring harness, the computer, possibly motor mounts (depending on the year of the 4.0) radiator (possibly), fuel pump/lines/sender/ect, and that 'should' do it. Alot of it will depend on the year of the engine that you plan on using, but overall it should be a very straight forward swap.

Whats wrong with the 2.9? That's a pretty killer engine you have there as the Ford V6's go.

nothing wrong with it.im going to fix up the truck and am doing a lot of changes. i thought it would be nice to have a 4.o in a 1990..more horse power....

im in the same boat. im putting a 351w in my 92 ranger. its still under the planning process but the truck will not look the same when im done. but i had ranger a while back that had the 2.9 and i liked it and a lot of fun with it, but i still wanted more horse power so i understand.  
anything is possible
