I need some help. I have a 70 chevy longbed that I am scared of hacking to make a shortbed. I have heard from friends of mine that I can take a frame from an mid 80's chevy and my cab, bed and front clip will bolt right on. Can anyone shed some light on this? I am dreading cutting a frame and hoping everything lines up. I have done some stupid stuff but I am not sure on this one. HELP PLEASE....

I don't think the sheetmetal from your 70 will bolt right onto an 80's frame without some minor modifications; I'm not for sure on this but there were some differences between those trucks. Now cutting down your truck won’t be that bad if you have a level piece of ground and some welding skills. We ran an article on how to do this here's the link.

I hope this will help if anything the article has a good image of the bare frame that you can use to cross reference against the 80's frame.... Let us know what you decide to do.-Calin

Not sure exactly what your saying but my father has a 70' cab and frame. Got in a wreck f*d up the 70' bed and put on a 89 bed. Fit perfect, the only thing is the molding on the side doesnt line up but thats not a big deal it steal looks clean.
