heard they're really expensive, like $500 for a 5 gallon 500 psi tank, and since not too many people are lookin' for that or willing to SPEND that much on a tank, scrap that idea for now.

has anyone heard of/seen a tank burst from too much pressure? (like in regards to an air ride setup on a truck). I haven't. But I wonder what it looks like/what it does.

what's the application you're looking for?
welding cylinders will safely hold 2500-plus psi and can be bought for a few hundred bucks.

you want a lot of volume or high pressure capability or both?

mounting in the bed or under it?

is this for your engine-driven air compressor?

Monica, I think I know where you are going with this. I got thinking about what you had said "hopefully you would blow a line before the tank" Well before we say this I think we should make it clear that if you mount the valves directly to the tank it will eliminate the weak point (air line) So if you our running your tank press. higher than recommended (at your own risk) be sure to run a bit of air line from the tank to your valves and put a blow off valve on the tank.

well hmmmmm
woudn't you you still have a line off the air source into the tank that could be a "weak point"? Ya I have lots of line between tank and valves, as my valves are close to the bags.
I think it would take a ton of oomph to flat out blow a line tho from pressure....from heat doesn't count haha. I think something else would go first before line.
like on electric or edc, I don't think I could pump enough to mess up anything major from pressure.  hmmmmmm hahaha I think the compressors/edc would just get pissed off and shut off after reaching a billion degrees. i dunnno

I've seen no advantage to high volume...just more work to build pressure. Anyone else noticed this? It seems that at less volume, it's easier to maintain high pressure. High volume makes it harder to maintain high pressure, even though you might have a lot of air. No?

would it matter where it's mounted?

no... i don't worry about anything with edc or electric haha

If you have a leader hose from the comp to the tank it SHOULD have a check valve so I dont see a leader blowing.I know you have a lot of line between the tank and valves so your right.. a line should blow first but most line is rated at 300psi so once again if you dont have it close to the motor or exhaust it prob wont blow. But I'm not telling you anything that you dont already know hahaha And yes high pressure low volume is the way to go but I like to have at least 8 gal of air. What do you run (tank size)?

IMO a 12 gallon tank is a waste. each bag only holds about half a gallon of air so combine that with the lines and you really dont need all that reserve.

why run the compressor so long to build up enough pressure in that big ass tank just to lift the front of the truck?
