I got news today that a close friend of mine passed away yesterday from a massive stroke. He was 53 and in excellent physical condition. The doctors said he never knew it hit him and didn't suffer.

He was older than me but we had a connection. We met 10 years ago when I bought the house next to him and his wife back in the Chicago suburbs. He was hardcore gearhead in every sense of the word and old school to the bone! We instantly became friends. He didn't own a vehicle newer than 1972 and his sweetest was his 65 C10 shortbed. We went to swap meets every month and always rolled in the C10.......he didn't like my new truck, it was too fancy and rode like a car.

It's hard to explain how I feel right now.....I moved here to Iowa 2 1/2 years ago and although we kept in touch we didn't do it often enough. That was kinda how we both were though, loners in a sense. He had planned on coming here last year for a week but had to cancel due to family issues. My wife went to Chicago a month ago and got to visit with him and his wife but I could not go due to work. We spoke on the phone and she got pics and he looked great, healthy as usual. Sometimes you never know.

You will be dearly missed my friend.

Thanks. I went to Chicago on Sunday for the wake. It was rough but that is to be expected. The funeral was Monday but we had to come back home due to my wife's schedule.....I wrenched on the truck as my way to say goodbye. He would dig that.

he's in a better place now. a place with endless tools, limitless storage for project trucks, and guys like Boyd Coddington and Dandy Dick Landy to bench race with.
