What's the funniest, most stupid, biggest duuuhhhhhhh moment you've had while working on your truck?
For example: Struggling to get a door light to work, only to find out it's wired to NOTHING? Rebuild your egine only to find out that mysterious noise was a bungie cord rattling? Truck won't start because you've forgotten to put gas in it?

Changing the oil in my Suburban (5.7) when I discover after draining the oil and pulling off the filter that I got a filter for my Silverado (5.3). My wife was at work so I had no vehicle to run out and get another filter (Silverado is in pieces).....and I cannot waste fresh oil with an old filter! No parts stores are close where I live, but I got lucky. An AC Delco repair shop a block away was just starting to close up so I quickly walked over there and paid way too much for a filter.....but at least they had one!

I remembered another while one washing the wife's van this past weekend. Last year it went into the dealership for a recall and while at the dealership the brakes got done on the front. They also adjusted the proportioning valve for front to rear balance...and here is where the story starts. One month later I was changing the oil in her van so I pulled it into the garage and positioned the ramps in front of the van...I've pulled this van onto these ramps many times...but not with the brakes "re-adjusted". I ride the brake pedal and throttle when I do this...are ya seeing it? The front brakes held less and allowed the front tires to pull the ramps in and launched them under the van! The van was teetering (?) on these ramps - tires not quite touching the ground - yet amazingly after I got the van off the ramps there was no damage! The ramps were composite plastic so they took the hit - van was not even scratched.

Worse part: the wife was in the garage and saw the whole thing!

Yep...she made me toss the ramps...can't say I blame her either!

Is there like a bonehead star or stamp of approval?

I get the oil change star.

I was always afraid of that happening with my old front wheel drive car.
My only bonehead move wasn't really working on my truck, but I was using the far side of the bed to prop my rifle on while shooting snapping turtles in the pond, and I forgot about the elevation change or whatever with my scope, so I shot a hole through the other side of the bed.  I did hit the turtle though!!
